Latest News

Adoptive parents Juan Sanchez Moreno and Alejandra Marin are facing charges of murder, torture, and child abuse following the tragic death of their 10-year-old son in Moreno Valley, California.

On November 23, 2024, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a distress call on the 1300 block of Malibu Court, where they found a 10-year-old boy in severe medical distress. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where signs of potential abuse and neglect were discovered. However, despite medical intervention, the child’s condition deteriorated, and he was tragically pronounced dead.

Charges Against Juan Sanchez Moreno and Alejandra Marin

Following an investigation, authorities charged the boy’s adoptive parents, Juan Sanchez Moreno and Alejandra Marin, with murder, torture, and child abuse.

The Prevalence of Child Abuse

Child abuse remains a pervasive issue in the United States. According to the National Children’s Alliance, in 2022, an estimated 1,990 children died from abuse and neglect nationwide, with boys experiencing a higher fatality rate than girls. These statistics highlight the need for comprehensive measures to protect children from harm.

The Role of Civil Litigation in Seeking Justice

In the aftermath of such tragedies, criminal proceedings aim to hold perpetrators accountable. However, civil litigation serves as a vital avenue for survivors and their families to seek justice, accountability, and compensation for their suffering. The Adoption agency in question may be liable for failing to do their job. Therefore, civil lawsuits can:

  • Provide Financial Compensation: Covering medical expenses, therapy, and other costs associated with the abuse.
  • Hold Institutions Accountable: Ensuring that agencies responsible for child welfare are scrutinized and reformed to prevent future neglect.
  • Offer a Sense of Justice: Allowing families to have their voices heard and their pain acknowledged in a court of law.
