Williamsport High School Students would confide in Roger Weaver Freed

Investigators state that the student met Freed in about 2014-2015 when the student was in 9th or 10th grade.  The student said that he first approached Freed after noticing he was popular with students.  He stated that Freed was someone he could confide in “like an older brother” and could talk about anything, especially the student’s sexuality.

The student allegedly began to believe he could lean on Freed for emotional support after one of his family members died.  The in-school conversations allegedly turned into “numerous after school interactions.”  The relationship turned sexual in about 2017 when the student was in 11th grade.

Freed and the student were driving around Williamsport one evening when Freed discussed advancing their relationship sexually, saying to the student, “You promise not to tell anybody?” and “I could lose my job over this” while massaging the student’s shoulders.

After the first alleged sexual encounter, the student told investigators that Freed “stressed the importance of not telling a soul, and how their relationship was private.”  Police state that they would “make out” in Freed’s office at the Williamsport Area School District, smoke cigars, and drink alcohol.  Freed would also send the student money via Venmo transactions for holidays, birthdays, and their relationship anniversary.

The two continued to engage in sexual acts about 4 to 5 times a week throughout the next two years of high school and after the student graduated.

It’s Common For Abusers Of Children To Have Abused Other Children

Freed was arraigned on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 and his bail was set at $175,000.

Cases of sexual abuse of children by their teachers and school officials have not only resulted in criminal convictions, as in this case, but also in civil judgments. It is often common for these abusers of children, like Freed, to have abused other children. It is important that victims receive justice to the fullest extent of the law and that those who are responsible for the abuse are held accountable.
