Father John Maurice Giandelone was arrested in 1984 and confessed to molesting several children. In 1993 and 2003, civil suits were filed against the Diocese and Giandelone alleging abuse by Giandelone. In 2003, Father John Maurice Giandelone pled guilty to sexually abused a child and received prison time. In 2007, the Diocese settled two claims in California alleging sexual abuse by Father John Giandelone for approximately $1.3 million.

Father John voluntarily left priesthood and moved to Florida as of 2010. Father Giandelone was ordained in 1978.
