Rodney Tyrone Childers, 45, is an ISD band teacher at LBJ Early College High School in Austin, Texas, and is facing multiple charges of sexual abuse of a student.
Childers charges are:
- three counts of second-degree felony Indecency with a child by exposure
- two counts of second-degree felony improper educator/student relationship
- one count of third-degree felony grooming of a child.
He allegedly communicated with the student using social media and violated school policy by taking the student off campus. He reportedly paid the student using CashApp. It is not uncommon for predators to groom young people by sending gifts and taking them places. These grooming tactics, over time, allow the abuser to build a sense of trust with the child.
