Christopher Titus, a former employee of seven years at Here We Grow day care in Webster Groves, Missouri, has been indicted on multiple felony charges of child sexual abuse. Disturbing details have emerged, showing that the daycare ignored significant warning signs, enabling abuse.
Charges and Accusations
Christopher Titus, 46, currently faces five felony charges related to child sexual abuse. Initially charged with four felonies involving a 4-year-old girl on March 5, Titus faces an additional charge involving another child under the age of 12, “according to a grand jury indictment filed on April 2 in St. Louis County Circuit Court.” (Mowers, April 21, 2025, timesnewspapers.com) Titus remains incarcerated on a $1 million bond.
Ignored Red Flags and Institutional Negligence
According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office of Childhood – Child Care Compliance, Titus faced a substantiated investigation filed on April 3 confirming multiple inappropriate interactions with children. In 2019, Titus was accused of inappropriate touching. Although the allegations were unsubstantiated at that time, the daycare temporarily restricted him from unsupervised contact. However, shortly thereafter, he was again left unsupervised with children, unsupervised.
The DESE report highlighted further troubling incidents. One child disclosed Titus instructed her to move her cot out of camera view during nap time before rubbing her back. Staff members noted Titus’s pattern of insistently accompanying girls to the bathroom, even when unnecessary. Multiple staff members observed concerning behavior changes in affected children, including increased distress and bathroom accidents, yet failed to adequately report these concerns until after Titus’s arrest.
Nepotism, Accountability, and Parental Concerns
The DESE investigation also revealed concerns related to nepotism. Director Lindsay Jones and staff member Brandon Jones are relatives of Titus, a fact one staff member in the investigation cited as the likely reason for his continued employment, even though he did not seem like a “good preschool teacher”.
Child care staff member Brandon Jones told investigators he never witnessed inappropriate behavior by Titus but acknowledged concerns about his tendency to lie and invade others’ personal space. Brandon, who is also Titus’s brother-in-law, confirmed that Titus had previously been accused of inappropriate conduct with a child, and that afterwards the family left the daycare. Despite these concerns, Titus was allowed to remain in key caregiving roles—often alone with children in the two-year-old classroom, the preschool class, and when assisting children in the bathroom.
Further details emerged from parental complaints. One parent reported discomfort after Titus made inappropriate and suggestive remarks about pregnancy timing and conception. Although initially addressed briefly by management, Titus was soon permitted to resume unsupervised duties, demonstrating continued negligence. After learning of the serious allegations against Titus, the parent no longer felt the center was acting in the best interest of the children and decided to withdraw her own.
