Dr. Christopher Davis, a York County, Pennsylvania, doctor specializing in substance abuse treatment, has been charged with 92 criminal offenses related to the alleged rape and sexual extortion of countless female patients. Davis, 63, is accused of coercing his patients into performing sexual acts in exchange for methadone, a medication used to treat opioid addiction.
The allegations against Davis are not the first health care sexual abuse cases to surface in Pennsylvania and nationwide in recent years. These cases highlight the ever-increasing importance of maintaining ethical standards in health care, and medical facilities must do better to protect their patients from predatory providers.

“Dr. Davis abused his position of trust to exploit vulnerable patients who depended on him for life-sustaining treatment. He took advantage of several of our clients, and they fully intend to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that he is brought to justice and those responsible for empowering him are held accountable. We believe this tragic situation was completely avoidable.”
Dr. Christopher Davis and Pyramid Healthcare's Background and History
Until early 2024, Dr. Christopher Davis served as the medical director at Pyramid Healthcare Treatment Center in York County, a facility that offers comprehensive addiction treatment, withdrawal management, and adult residential care. Davis was the sole provider of methadone at the facility, so he had complete control over patients’ access to the drug.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Davis by the Pennsylvania Attorney General, Davis allegedly used his position of power to manipulate patients seeking methadone between 2022 and 2024. If patients refused his sexual advances, Davis is said to have threatened to withhold their treatment.
Methadone is an FDA-approved medication used to treat opioid use disorder. It is usually taken daily. The drug reduces opioid craving, relieves withdrawal symptoms, and blocks the effects of opioids. As a long-acting full opioid agonist and schedule II controlled medication, it can only be dispensed through a certified program.
Davis’s LinkedIn profile also states that he has run a private addiction medicine practice since 2008, providing treatment especially targeted to the opiate-dependent pregnant population. It’s unclear whether Davis’s private patients experienced the same alleged sexual abuse as Pyramid patients.
Sexual Abuse Allegations Involving Dr. Davis and Pyramid Healthcare
Records from the York County Court of Common Pleas show that Davis is facing 92 criminal charges—mostly felonies—involving incidents dating back to September 1, 2022. The charges include rape, sexual assasult, sexual exploitation, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, and more. Davis was arrested in late April 2025, after a presentment from the Statewide Investigating Grand Jury.
Because Davis had sole control over patients’ access to methadone, a life-saving drug for people experiencing opioid addiction, he was allegedly able to gatekeep the medication from vulnerable parties using manipulation, intimidation, and assault. Prosecutors allege that Davis pressured female patients into performing sexual acts with him or giving him sexual photos of themselves in exchange for access to methadone. Patients were forced to choose between sexual exploitation and losing progress in their addiction recovery.

Ongoing Legal Action Involving Dr. Davis and Pyramid Healthcare
Davis was arrested on April 30 and held in York County Prison on a $1 million bail until May 8, when he was released after posting bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 28. The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Drug Strike Force Section is still investigating the case, and anyone with information on Davis or the alleged abuse he committed is encouraged to contact the Attorney General’s office at 717-712-1280.
“This doctor abused his role as a gatekeeper to necessary medications for vulnerable patients by manipulating, intimidating, and assaulting numerous patients between 2022 and 2024,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said in a statement after Davis’s arrest. “The patients relied on the defendant to provide compassionate care and treatment as they navigated a path to recovery, instead, he betrayed them time and time again. People seeking to better their lives through treatment should be celebrated and supported, not preyed upon and exploited.”
Implications For the Medical Community
Health care facilities and providers are legally obligated to safeguard their patients’ rights and maintain professional boundaries to avoid abuse of this kind. People seeking treatment should be supported, not preyed upon. Facilities and providers must be held accountable for enabling abuse to occur by failing to appropriately supervise, hire, or admonish staff. Health care sexual abuse is a severe breach of trust, and perpetrators and the enabling institutions behind them must face consequences.
