A Queens man has been indicted on federal charges accusing him of trafficking five victims, including three minor girls, through hotels on Long Island and elsewhere in New York. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, a 12-count indictment was unsealed in federal court in Central Islip, charging Tyrone Stylistic Crooks, 33, of St. Albans, Queens, with multiple counts of sex trafficking, sexual exploitation of minors, and transportation for prostitution.

Federal prosecutors allege that Crooks trafficked five victims, including three girls who were between the ages of 14 and 17 at the time of the alleged crimes. Prosecutors further allege that he manipulated victims into commercial sex acts for his financial benefit using fraud, physical violence, and sexual violence, and that he produced sexually exploitative images and videos of the minor victims.

Federal Sex Trafficking Charges Against Tyrone Stylistic Crooks

The indictment alleges that Crooks exploited victims in hotels on Long Island and elsewhere, turning commercial lodging spaces into sites of sexual exploitation. Crooks was arrested at the Budget Inn in Huntington. Crooks is in custody as of March 11, 2026.

The allegations in this case reflect patterns survivors’ advocates know all too well. Sex traffickers often target vulnerable people, isolate them, use intimidation and violence to maintain control, and profit from their abuse. When minors are involved, the harm is even more devastating. Children cannot consent to commercial sexual exploitation. They are victims. Full stop.

Hotels and Motels Can Become Part of the Abuse

This case also underscores how hotels and motels can become recurring locations for trafficking. Traffickers often use these properties because they offer anonymity, short stays, and a steady stream of buyers. When businesses ignore obvious signs of trafficking, survivors may later ask whether those entities should have done more to intervene, report, or protect vulnerable people from ongoing exploitation.

Civil cases involving trafficking in hotels have become an increasingly important part of survivor-centered accountability. While criminal prosecutions matter, they do not always address the broader systems that allowed abuse to continue. Civil litigation helps uncover what businesses knew, what warning signs were missed, and whether profit was placed above human safety.

The Exploitation of Minor Victims

The fact that three of the alleged victims were minors should stop everyone in their tracks. Girls ages 14 to 17 are not making “choices” in these situations. They are being exploited. Traffickers frequently use coercion, fear, grooming, and violence to trap children and teens in abuse that can leave lasting trauma for years.

Cases like this are a reminder that sex trafficking does not only happen in faraway places or in the shadows. It happens in our communities, in ordinary buildings, and often in plain sight. Survivors deserve to be believed, supported, and given every available legal avenue to pursue justice.
