Dr. Oumair Aejaz Sexual Abuse

Former Detroit-area doctor Oumair Aejaz is facing criminal charges and civil lawsuits after police discovered thousands of illicit videos in his possession, with victims ranging from two years old to adults. Aejaz is accused of secretly recording patients and others in various settings, like hospitals and swimming schools. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, who are handling the investigation, believes there could be hundreds of victims of Aejaz’s alleged misconduct.

Former patients and others subjected to Aejaz’s hidden cameras have experienced a severe violation of safety, privacy, and trust, especially in medical and child care environments. The severity and score of Aejaz’s alleged offenses are uniquely harmful, as he took advantage of his position as a trusted doctor to abuse patients. If you or a loved one has experienced sexual abuse or privacy violations by Dr. Oumair Aejaz, you’re not alone, and you have legal rights and options for pursuing justice.

Professional Background and Employment History

Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 41, practiced internal medicine in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He held contract positions at multiple hospitals, including Ascension Genesys Hospital, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospital, and Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. Before practicing in Michigan, Aejaz completed medical training and practiced in Alabama.

As a medical professional, Aejaz held a position of authority and trust at each of these hospitals.  He had access to patients in vulnerable positions, including children. Aejaz and the institutions where he worked are now facing legal actions.  For these institutions, there are serious consequences regarding their lack of oversight of Dr. Aejaz.

How Aejaz’s Abuse Was Discovered

In 2024, Aejaz’s wife, Shazia Tabassum, allegedly discovered numerous cameras and memory cards hidden in their home containing video footage from the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester, NY.  These included videos of patients and videos of Aejaz having sexual relations with other people, including a co-worker. Tabassum filed for divorce in June 2024, received sole custody of their two children, and reported Aejaz to the police in August.

Upon investigation, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department allegedly found six computers, four cell phones, and 15 hard drives in Aejaz’s possession, one of which contained more than 13,000 videos taken over the last six years. Prosecutors criminally charged Aejaz for the recordings of the swim school changing rooms, as well as videos found on Aejaz’s phone depicting the sexual abuse of a six-year-old child.

Legal Actions Against Aejaz

Aejaz is facing both criminal charges and civil legal actions. More than just court filings, these actions represent the voices of survivors seeking justice and systemic change. As of late April, 2025, Aejaz is set to stand trial for at least 27 felony counts, including criminal sexual conduct, aggravated child sexually abusive activity, and more. He faces up to life in prison.

In addition, Aejaz faces multiple lawsuits by victims, including a class action lawsuit naming Aejaz, Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace, and Henry Ford Macomb as defendants. The lawsuit, filed in September 2024, accuses the Henry Ford Health System and its hospital administration of failing to implement appropriate safeguards to protect patients from predatory behavior. Victims allege that Aejaz committed widespread sexual abuse and privacy violations against patients, including minors, over several years, while hospital administrators did nothing to stop it.

Additionally, Aejaz is facing a lawsuit from two former employees of Goldfish Swim School, who allege that he violated their privacy by placing hidden cameras in changing rooms. The plaintiffs are also suing the school for failing to protect them.

Current Status and Ongoing Investigations

As of May 2025, Aejaz is currently incarcerated on a $2 million bond. A trial date has not yet been set. Authorities continue investigating and combing through the thousands of videos seized from Aejaz’s possession. Law enforcement officers have described the case as one of the most disturbing sexual predator cases they have ever seen.
