Patients trust doctors to provide care, not cause harm. When a medical provider violates this fundamental trust, the consequences can be devastating.
Details of the Dr. Dung T. Nguyen Case
In Arizona, multiple women have bravely come forward alleging serious breaches of this trust by 65-year-old osteopathic physician Dr. Dung T. Nguyen.
Dr. Dung T. Nguyen has now been indicted on fourteen counts of sexual abuse and assault.
Dr. Nguyen was employed at Grace Health & Healing Center in Tucson Arizona, part of Arizona Community Physicians, a large medical group practice in Southern Arizona. The center has since closed.
The investigation began after several women reported inappropriate sexual contact during medical exams that were unrelated to their medical complaints. (KVOA) Thus far, six former patients have come forward.
Survivor Testimony and the Ongoing Search for Justice
One of Dr. Nguyen’s former patients had been seeing him for over 20 years and said she “trusted him but began to realize she was being sexually abused.” (News 4 Tucson KVOA-TV)
“I want to make sure that they close his office down. I want to make sure that he’s never, ever able to touch and see any type of patient…He had his hands in his lap and he put his head down. And in reality, I wanted him to hold his head up, because I wanted him to look at me and see that it doesn’t go away. What you did will never go away.”

Detectives believe there may be additional victims of Dr. Nguyen and are urging anyone with information to come forward. You can contact detectives at (520)-589-8971 or submit an anonymous tip through 88-CRIME (City of Tuscon).
Nguyen is currently out of custody but on leave and not seeing patients. He is expected back in Pima County Superior Court on June 12th, 2025.
This is not the first time Dr. Nguyen’s conduct has come under review. According to public records, the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine and Surgery held an investigative hearing regarding his medical license in November 2020. The outcome of that hearing has not been publicly disclosed.
A Violation of Trust
Healthcare providers occupy a position of significant trust. Patients trust them with their bodies and well-being, often in vulnerable moments. When that trust is exploited, it can deeply undermine a person’s sense of safety and self-worth.
Survivors of health care sexual abuse may question whether what happened to them was inappropriate, especially when the setting is clinical or the behavior is framed as routine care. But if something felt wrong, it’s worth speaking with someone who can help you understand your rights.
Legal Options for Survivors: Criminal and Civil Justice
While Dr. Nguyen is now facing criminal prosecution, survivors may also have the right to pursue civil legal action. Civil lawsuits hold institutions like hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and residential facilities accountable when they fail to protect patients or ignore warning signs of misconduct. These cases can expose systemic failures and help prevent future harm to others.
We recognize that no amount of money can undo what happened. But for many survivors, civil lawsuits offer a way to be heard, to pursue justice on their own terms, and to receive compensation that can support healing and recovery.
A civil lawsuit may result in financial compensation for emotional distress, pain and suffering, medical expenses, and a loss in earning capacity.
