A California certified nursing assistant, Kayode “Kay” Agbolade Ogunba, 61, has been arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses after authorities allege he sexually abused vulnerable adult patients while working at a care home in Goleta.

He is also “currently under investigation related to a sexual assault reported by a patient in Los Angeles,” per the LAPD.

Arrest and Criminal Charges

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, “The investigation began on November 3, 2025, after a care home on South Patterson Road in Goleta reported that two patients had been sexually assaulted by a CNA identified as Kayode Agbolade Ogunba.”

Authorities have not publicly named the facility.

Detectives arrested Ogunba in the Los Angeles area pursuant to a Santa Barbara County arrest warrant on January 20, 2026. He was then booked into the Santa Barbara County Main Jail.

“The complaint includes…aggravating factors that the victims were particularly vulnerable and the defendant took advantage of a position of trust or confidence to commit the offenses.” (Nooz Hawk)

Prosecutors have filed four felony criminal counts:

  • Two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object
  • Two counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a dependent adult with force

Prosecutors also alleged a sentencing enhancement under California Penal Code § 667.61(b)(e)(4), asserting that the charged offenses involved more than one victim. While not a separate criminal charge, this allegation could substantially increase potential sentencing penalties if proven.

At a January 22, 2026 hearing, the defendant entered not guilty pleas to all four felony counts, and denied the sentencing enhancement. Enhancements are formally “denied” rather than pleaded “not guilty.”

Ogunba is currently being held on a $100,000 bail.

Separate Los Angeles Investigation

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Sexual Assault Detectives have also announced a separate investigation of Ogunba “involving a sexual assault reported by a patient in Los Angeles.”

No further information has been provided at this time.

Authorities Are Looking For More Victims

Law enforcement officials report that Ogunba worked as both a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aide (HHA) and was employed through multiple temporary staffing agencies. Investigators believe that he has had access to many potential victims.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office released the following information:

“During the investigation, detectives learned that similar allegations involving Ogunba had previously been reported in the Los Angeles area. Investigators also believe Ogunba may have worked as a CNA in other states, including Washington and Texas, within the past seven years.”

They also believe he may have gone by the name “Kay.”

As of February 5, 2026, authorities have also released information that “Kay” worked in Pawnee County, Kansas and Glendora, California. They are continuing to investigate his employment history as part of the overall investigation.

The LAPD is seeking additional individuals who were victimized while under his care in nursing homes, hospice settings, or in-home care environments.

Reporting Sexual Abuse by Ogunba

Since the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office “released initial information about this case, detectives have received multiple calls from survivors who bravely came forward to share their experiences.”

Both Santa Barbara and Los Angeles authorities are continuing to urge anyone with information about the case, Ogunba’s employment history, or victimization to come forward.

License Status and Employability

Institutional Responsibility in Caregiver Abuse Cases

Abuse in nursing homes, hospice, or other care settings can be linked to breakdowns in oversight or supervision. Facilities and staffing agencies responsible for placing caregivers into patient-care roles are expected to conduct background screening, verify licensing status, and respond promptly to complaints or warning signs.

When safety safeguards are inadequate or not properly enforced, predators disguised as caregivers may obtain repeated access to vulnerable individuals across multiple facilities, increasing the risk of continued harm.

Civil investigations often examine whether supervising facilities, agencies, or organizations followed appropriate hiring, supervision, and reporting procedures, and whether red flags were overlooked or ignored.

Individuals who experience sexual abuse in residential or health care settings may have civil legal options available. Civil cases can examine whether an organization failed to implement safeguards designed to protect vulnerable patients.

If you or someone you love believes they were harmed by Kayode “Kay” Agbolade Ogunba or anyone else or by any individual entrusted with providing care, please know that you are not alone. Help and support are available.
