A 33-year-old truck driver, Britain J. Hawk from Ohio is facing multiple felony charges after police say he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl at the Appalachian Hotel on the 1800 block of Harrisburg Pike Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

According to Middlesex Township Police, Britain J. Hawk, of Euclid, Ohio, was arrested on March 4, 2026, after officers were called to the Petro Travel Center truck stop on Harrisburg Pike in Carlisle following reports that a runaway teenage girl had been spotted with an adult truck driver.

Investigators determined that Hawk had been traveling with the girl and had allegedly engaged in sexual activity with her during the time they were together.

Police arrested Hawk at the truck stop and transported him to Cumberland County Prison, where he remains in custody pending court proceedings.

As with all criminal cases, Hawk is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Charges Filed Against Britain J. Hawk

Authorities charged Hawk with several serious sex offenses under Pennsylvania law, including:

  • Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse
  • Statutory Sexual Assault
  • Unlawful Contact With a Minor
  • Corruption of Minors
  • Criminal Use of a Communication Facility

Understanding Pennsylvania’s Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse Law

Under Pennsylvania law, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse is one of the most serious sexual offenses. The crime is classified as a first-degree felony when it involves sexual acts with a minor or occurs through force or coercion.

Convictions can carry severe penalties, including decades in prison, particularly when the alleged victim is a child.

The law recognizes that minors cannot legally consent to sexual activity with adults. When adults exploit or groom children, criminal statutes exist to protect young victims and hold offenders accountable.

Truck Stops, Runaways, and Vulnerable Youth

Cases like this highlight a broader issue law enforcement and child-advocacy organizations continue to confront: runaway and vulnerable youth being targeted by adults.

Young people who run away from home or experience instability are often at greater risk of exploitation. Perpetrators may use transportation, hotels, or online communication to isolate minors and facilitate abuse.

Truck stops, hotels, and transit locations have historically been areas where vulnerable youth can be encountered by predators or traffickers. Preventing exploitation requires vigilance from businesses, law enforcement, and the community.

Civil Justice Options for Survivors

While criminal prosecutions focus on punishing offenders, survivors may also have civil legal options.

Civil lawsuits can sometimes hold additional parties accountable when negligence contributed to abuse. Depending on the facts of a case, potential defendants could include:

  • Businesses that failed to intervene or report suspicious activity
  • Hotels or travel centers where exploitation occurred
  • Individuals or entities who enabled the abuse

Civil litigation can provide survivors with financial compensation, resources for healing, and a pathway to accountability beyond the criminal justice system.

Protecting Children Requires Community Awareness

Protecting children from sexual exploitation requires collective vigilance. Parents, businesses, and community members should all take steps to recognize warning signs of grooming or exploitation.

Red flags can include:

  • Adults isolating minors or traveling with them without explanation
  • Communication between adults and children through private messaging apps
  • Adults providing transportation, lodging, or gifts to minors

When something seems wrong, reporting concerns to law enforcement or child protection agencies can help prevent harm.
