Key Takeaways
- Dr. Syed Haque faced three cases involving patient sexual assault
- He was ultimately convicted on five counts and sentenced to a term of incarceration, followed by probation and sex offender registration
- Survivors of Dr. Haque may have the right to pursue civil claims
Dr. Syed Haque, an internist and primary care physician in Frederick, Maryland, with more than 25 years of experience, was convicted in 2025 as part of an Alford plea agreement for three separate criminal cases involving allegations of sexual misconduct during medical visits.
Initial Charges and Investigation
Dr. Haque was first arrested by Frederick police on February 4, 2025, after a patient reported to authorities that she had been assaulted during a medical appointment.
Prior to his arrest, a grand jury indicted Dr. Haque on January 31, 2025, on multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of second-degree rape
- Three counts of fourth-degree sex offense
- Three counts of second-degree assault
According to reports, the patient said that the first incident happened in October 2024, but she did not report it at the time because she was unsure if what had happened was sexual assault.
After a January 2025 visit, however, “the victim immediately reported the assault to the office staff and then to the police. The victim alleges that Dr. Haque sexually assaulted her under the guise of conducting pelvic and breast exams, which were not the actual reasons for her visits.” (City of Frederick)
According to WBAL TV, she also reported that Haque had demanded kisses from her multiple times.
Additional Patients Come Forward
Following Dr. Haque’s arrest, additional patients came forward with similar allegations. These reports ultimately resulted in two additional criminal cases against him.
According to the Frederick News-Post, “One woman accused Haque of touching her breasts without her consent during a medical visit in June 2024.”
A third patient alleged that Dr. Haque engaged in repeated inappropriate sexual contact during medical visits in October and December 2024, including kissing and touching her without consent.
The emergence of multiple patients with similar experiences is significant. It suggests a pattern and raises concerns that others may have experienced similar harm before the conduct came to light.
Conviction and Sentencing
In October 2025, Dr. Haque entered an Alford plea, a type of plea agreement in which a defendant accepts that there is sufficient evidence to support a conviction without admitting guilt.
He was convicted of:
- Two counts of fourth-degree sex offense
- Three counts of second-degree assault
In December 2025, Dr. Haque was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with 29 years and 6 months suspended. He will also serve five years of supervised probation following his release and will be required to register as a Tier I sex offender. (The Frederick News-Post)
While the initial charges included more serious allegations, including rape, the plea agreement, reached with the involvement of prosecutors, defense counsel, the court, and the victims, resolved all three cases without requiring victims to testify at trial.
