What Is Roblox?
Roblox is a free online platform where players create and play games, explore user-generated experiences, and connect with millions of people worldwide. Launched in 2006, the platform allows users to buy, sell, and create virtual items. Players can access Roblox on smartphones, tablets, Mac and Windows computers, as well as various gaming consoles. Roblox attracts a large audience of both children and adults, with almost two-thirds of U.S. children aged 9 to 12 playing games on the platform.
Recent lawsuits filed by government agencies and families of sexual abuse survivors claim the platform did not adequately protect or alert users to sexual predators.
Recent Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuits
Below is a brief look at some of the sexual abuse lawsuits brought against Roblox in recent years:
Texas v. Roblox
In a November 2025 lawsuit, the state of Texas accused Roblox of knowingly allowing the sexual exploitation and abuse of children across the country. Texas argued that predators use the platform’s social and highly addictive design to target children, luring them with offers of the in-game currency, “Robux,” in exchange for child sexual abuse material. The state accused Roblox of failing to implement guardrails to protect children.
Kentucky v. Roblox
In October 2025, the Commonwealth of Kentucky sued Roblox, alleging that the platform is a “hunting ground for child predators” and has fostered an online environment where children face exploitation. The lawsuit also points to an extremist sextortion group named “764” as being active on the platform. Months earlier, in February 2025, a 25-year-old Kentucky man with self-proclaimed ties to the 764 network pleaded guilty to several federal charges related to grooming, extorting, threatening, and attempting to kill children.
Louisiana v. Roblox
In an August 2025 lawsuit, the state of Louisiana claimed Roblox promotes itself as the “#1 gaming site for kids and teens” yet fails to implement basic safety measures to protect children or warn families about the risk of sexual predators on the platform. The lawsuit referenced the July 2025 arrest of an individual suspected of possessing child sexual abuse material and stated that the person was actively using Roblox at the time of the arrest.
Family Sues Roblox and Discord After Girl Allegedly Kidnapped by Man
In August 2025, a lawsuit was filed on behalf of a 10-year-old California girl who was allegedly kidnapped by a 27-year-old man she met online. The suit names Roblox and Discord as the defendants. San Francisco’s KRON4 News reports that the girl initially connected with the man on Roblox, but their contact continued on Discord. The lawsuit alleges the man manipulated the girl into sharing her address and abducted her from her home. Authorities located the girl hundreds of miles away in the suspect’s vehicle after a coordinated search.
Who Can Be Held Liable in a Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuit?
Depending on the circumstances of the case, the following parties may be liable:
- Roblox: The company that owns and operates Roblox, along with its affiliated or subsidiary entities, may be held liable if its negligence contributed to or failed to prevent sexual abuse.
- Individual offender: The person responsible for committing the abuse can be held accountable through both the criminal and civil justice systems for the harm inflicted.
- Third-party platforms: Other platforms may be liable if they acted negligently or failed to address known risks, even if the harm originated on Roblox and later migrated to another platform. For instance, Discord, an instant messaging and social platform, has been named as a defendant in sexual abuse lawsuits connected to Roblox.
