Authorities in El Paso County, Colorado, are continuing a child sexual abuse investigation involving a Colorado Springs former bodybuilding trainer and coach.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the Special Victims Unit opened an investigation on September 23, 2025 after receiving a report alleging sexual assaults involving multiple children.

The Case of Brandon Lee Duba

The suspect, Brandon Lee Duba, 39, was arrested on December 18, 2025. Law enforcement has stated that Duba “was in a position of trust over the victims.”

He has been charged with multiple sex offenses that involve children, including sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, enticement of a child, and sexual assault of a child under 15 by a person in a position of trust, involving a pattern of abuse.

Court records allege that Brandon Duba engaged in repeated sexual abuse involving multiple children over several years, with alleged conduct spanning from February 16, 2017 through December 18, 2025.

The enticement of a child charge is based on the allegation that, according to the complaint, “Brandon Lee Duba unlawfully and feloniously invited or persuaded, or attempted to invite or persuade, a child under the age of fifteen years, to enter any vehicle, building, room or secluded place with the intent to commit sexual assault or unlawful sexual contact upon the child.”

Duba was released from the El Paso County Jail on December 21, 2025, after posting a $250,000 bond. Court records show that the court imposed strict pretrial conditions, including a mandatory protection order requiring Duba to vacate the home, have no contact with the alleged victims or any minors, and refrain from using the internet or smartphones.

A preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for January 14, 2026, in El Paso County.

Court records indicate that Duba also faces a divorce case, also in El Paso County.

Investigators Cite Extended Access to Children

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, “During the investigation, detectives uncovered information indicating Duba has had extensive access to children in the Pikes Peak region through his work as a (former) bodybuilding trainer and coach who frequently trained at Vasa Fitness on Palmer Park and Elevation Pro Gym facilities.”

Although Duba used VASA Fitness to train clients, he was reportedly not an employee or contractor of VASA Fitness. The gym told 11 News that it “‘does not allow non-VASA Personal Trainers to train, coach, or instruct their own clients or other VASA members at our clubs.’”

According to the sheriff, Duba “taught children’s classes (likely martial arts and bodybuilding) in the Colorado Springs area over the past eight years.”

This has raised concerns that additional victims may exist who have not yet been identified. At this time, authorities have not publicly disclosed where the children’s classes were held or whether any organization sponsored or supervised those activities. The investigation is ongoing.

Background in the Fitness Industry

Public records indicate that Duba previously worked in the fitness industry in several different roles. From September 2014 through March 2019, he worked as a fitness consultant with 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment. Records also show that Duba briefly worked as a certified personal trainer with 24 Hour Fitness from May 2014 through September 2014, where his duties included client sessions and class instruction.

How to Report Abuse

Based on the information gathered so far, detectives believe additional victims may exist. Anyone with information related to this case, or who believes they may have been harmed, is encouraged to contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (719) 520-7777

Sheriff Joseph Roybal emphasized his team’s commitment to pursuing child predators. “I am incredibly proud of the dedication and professionalism of our Special Victims Unit detectives, whose tireless work ensures thorough, compassionate, and victim-focused investigations,” he said.

Common Patterns in Child Sexual Abuse

In many child sexual abuse cases, perpetrators exploit positions of trust within community settings. Abuse can occur in a wide range of contexts, including in environments where adults are viewed as mentors, caregivers, or authority figures.

That access and perceived trust can make it extremely difficult for children to recognize inappropriate behavior or feel safe coming forward, particularly when the abuser is someone they depend on. As a result, abuse can go unreported for years, underscoring the importance of examining whether other adults or institutions failed to provide appropriate supervision or protection.

Criminal Charges and Potential Civil Accountability

The criminal case against Duba will determine whether he is found guilty of the charges filed by prosecutors. Separate from the criminal process, civil law provides another path for survivors to seek accountability.

Civil investigations can examine whether organizations failed to take reasonable steps to protect children from harm. These cases may evaluate whether entities allowed unsupervised access to children, failed to enforce proper safety or supervision policies, or ignored warning signs or boundary violations.

Importantly, civil accountability does not depend on a criminal conviction, and an organization does not need to have formally employed an alleged perpetrator to be examined.

Anyone who believes they may have been harmed by Brandon Duba may have a legal case with organizations he was involved with.
