The center does not appear to have publicly released any additional statement addressing the allegations.
According to the Mission Statement on their website, Learn & Play Center provides childcare for children ages 5 through 12, including before- and after-school care. The center states that it aims to make every child feel comfortable while in its care and feel a sense of belonging. They describe children’s “comfort and safety” as their priority.
Oversight in Childcare Settings
When child sexual abuse allegations arise involving an employee at a childcare facility, families understandably have important questions, including:
- Did the employee undergo required background checks and screening?
- Were there warning signs that the employee posed a risk to children?
- Were any prior concerns or complaints reported, documented, and properly investigated?
- Did staff receive appropriate child abuse prevention and mandated reporter training?
Childcare centers are entrusted with the safety of young children, and families rely on them to provide appropriate screening, supervision, safeguards, and compliance with mandatory reporting requirements.
Criminal law focuses on whether an individual committed a crime.
Civil law serves a different purpose and may examine whether an institution failed to take reasonable steps to prevent or respond to abuse.
Civil lawsuits can help uncover institutional failures, encourage meaningful safety reforms, and provide survivors and their families with financial resources for counseling, medical care, and other needs associated with recovery.
