Dr. Mark Hoffman’s Medical Background
Per Healthgrades, Dr. Mark Hoffman, MD, is a hematologist oncologist with more than 45 years of medical experience. He holds certifications for Anatomic Pathology & Clinical Pathology, Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine.
Hematology-oncology is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and cancer. Physicians in this field often care for patients facing serious diagnoses and may manage long-term treatment plans involving chemotherapy and medications.
Publicly available information indicates Hoffman has been affiliated with professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
He has been affiliated with several hospitals, including Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital in Wisconsin, as well as North Shore University Hospital, and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, both of which are part of the Northwell Health network.
Where Is Dr. Hoffman?
A spokesperson for the healthcare company he worked for told News 12 that “‘Hoffman has not been employed with Optum Medical Care since last summer.’”
His LinkedIn profile lists him as an attending physician at Optum from 2019 to the present, although the profile indicates that he is currently “open to work” and seeking a part-time position.
Online patient reviews from 2025 indicate that some patients were surprised to learn that Dr. Hoffman was no longer practicing with Optum at the New Hyde Park location and were asking where he had gone.
In one review, titled, “Where is Dr Hoffman,” a patient wrote,
“It doesn’t make sense that he had relocated to another Optum location (Mt Kisco) as mentioned in previous review. Because when they called me to cancel my appointment at the New Hyde Park location, they refused to give out any information as to why he was no longer there. Or where he went. I feel if he had gone to another Optum location, they would have shared that information. Please share any further information that is known.”
When patients are not informed why a physician was removed from a practice, it can raise broader patient-safety concerns, particularly if the physician may continue treating patients elsewhere.
A review of publicly available licensing records indicates that no disciplinary actions are currently listed against Hoffman’s medical license.
Institutional Responsibility and Civil Accountability
Hospitals, medical practices, and healthcare companies have a legal, ethical, and moral duty to protect patients from abuse by their own staff. These institutions are responsible for implementing policies and safeguards designed to ensure that medical care is delivered safely and professionally at all times.
Patients rely on healthcare providers not only for medical expertise, but also for dignity, safety, and respect during deeply vulnerable moments. Safeguards such as proper hiring and vetting practices, staff supervision, clear reporting procedures, and chaperone policies during sensitive examinations are critical in medical settings.
When a physician is accused of abuse, the issue necessarily extends beyond just their conduct. The allegations may prompt closer examination of whether warning signs were overlooked and whether healthcare institutions fulfilled their responsibility to protect patients.
Support for Survivors of Medical Sexual Abuse
Experiencing sexual abuse in a medical setting can be deeply traumatic, especially because the perpetrator should have been a trustworthy, safe, individual. Survivors may struggle with confusion, shame, anger, or betrayal.
Civil cases can examine whether medical providers, practices, or institutions failed to protect patients or allowed unsafe conditions. They also give survivors the opportunity to pursue compensation for counseling and other costs tied to recovery. These cases also expose systemic failures and can drive reforms to better protect patients in the future.
