Allegations Against Dr. Stephen Feig

Doctors are entrusted with extraordinary responsibility, and patients should be able to rely on them for safe, ethical care.

But former Sarasota doctor Stephen A. Feig faces allegations that he violated that trust. Dr. Feig, an osteopathic physician and former medical director of the Brain Wave Center in Sarasota, Florida, has been accused of sexual assaults on his patients.

Dr. Feig was first arrested on April 18, 2025, in connection with allegations made against him. A separate incident involving another patient had already resulted in a misdemeanor battery charge filed in 2024. He was taken into custody again in April 2026 and prosecutors filed an additional felony charge of sexual assault by a psychotherapist in connection to the first case.

Authorities believe additional patients may have been harmed by Feig and urge anyone with information to contact Detective Angela Cox at 941‑263‑6075 or email angela.cox@sarasotafl.gov

Dr. Stephen Feig & The Brain Wave Center

Previously located at 640 S. Washington Blvd., Suite 150 in Sarasota, the Brain Wave Center marketed itself as a provider of “non-drug” mental health services, including qEEG brain mapping, and other treatments for conditions such as PTSD, autism, anxiety, depression, ADHD, concussions, emotional trauma, traumatic brain injury, and sleep disorders.

The Brain Wave Center was founded by Doug Libertore, a Sarasota businessman. The facility has been marked “Permanently Closed” on Google Business and appears to have been rebranded as BrainSync

How the Case Against Feig Unfolded

The case against Dr. Feig developed over time and involved two patients across separate incidents.

Allegations Outlined in the First Case

According to a probable cause affidavit in one of the cases, one patient began treatment with Dr. Feig in May 2023 while seeking help for sexual trauma, chronic migraine, chronic neck pain, anxiety, depresslon, body pain, PTSD, suicidal ideations and sleep disorder.

Dr. Feig allegedly started their first session by having the patient do a “trust exercise” in which he “instructed her to repeat the words ‘l am not scared, I am safe, Dr. Feig cares about me and won’t hurt me’ repeatedly.”

The patient had previously disclosed a history of sexual trauma and reported questioning Dr. Feig’s methods, and even suggested that a family member be present.

According to the affidavit, “Dr. Feig convinced her that due to their connection, he believed he could heal her. Dr Feig told her that the treatment would have to be performed outside of the Brain Wave Center because it was hard work, and it could be dangerous for him. Dr. Feig said what they do at the Brain Wave Center would not be enough to heal her.”

The patient reported attending multiple sessions, including outside the clinical setting at Dr. Feig’s apartment. The affidavit states that Dr. Feig told her that, as part of her treatment, they would need to have an intimate relationship, describing it as “thinking of each other as two friends and not just doctor and patient” and a “safe, loving and nurturing relationship.”

In one instance, Feig told the victim “that they would need to reenact the night she was raped so that she could fully heal and release her anger. Dr. Feig told her this would help her reclaim her power and she would no longer fear men. As the session went on, Dr. Feig explained that he would play the part of the rapist, and she would simply play herself.”

The affidavit further alleges that, during these interactions, Dr. Feig engaged in repeated non-consensual sexual conduct with the patient.

On April 18, 2025, Stephen A. Feig was arrested in connection with allegations made by the patient, and prosecutors filed a sexual battery charge.

In April 2026, prosecutors filed an additional felony charge, sexual assault by a psychotherapist, a second-degree felony, in this same case. A warrant was issued, and Dr. Feig was taken into custody again on April 29, 2026. He was released on May 1, 2026, after posting bond.

Allegations Outlined in the Second Case

A separate case involved another patient, who reported inappropriate contact during a December 2023 medical visit. The patient, who had been receiving treatment at the Brain Wave Center since October 2023, stated that during an appointment, Dr. Feig made inappropriate and unexplained physical contact without her permission.

The patient reported feeling uncomfortable during the encounter, noting that Dr. Feig did not explain the purpose of the examination or his actions. She later reported the incident to staff and family members before contacting law enforcement.

In September 2024, prosecutors filed a first-degree misdemeanor battery in connection with that case.

Florida Medical Board Action

On June 23, 2025, the Florida Department of Health issued an emergency suspension of Dr. Feig’s medical license, citing his April 18, 2025, arrest. The order prohibited him from practicing medicine in Florida.

An administrative complaint was later filed on July 9, 2025, outlining allegations related to both criminal cases.

Other State Licensing Actions

Public records show disciplinary action against Feig across several other states.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation issued a temporary suspension on July 1, 2025.

The Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine & Surgery restricted him from the practice of medicine on September 19, 2025.

In Hawaii, records indicate that action was taken based on disciplinary measures in another state.

His Colorado physician license expired in April 2025, with no disciplinary action listed.

Despite these actions, his California osteopathic license appears to remain active, with an expiration date of 2027 raising questions about how disciplinary measures are enforced across jurisdictions.

Continued Online Advertising Raises Concerns

Despite facing criminal charges and licensing actions, Stephen A. Feig has actively created and maintained multiple online profiles promoting his “services.”

This ongoing online activity may create confusion for individuals seeking care, particularly where licensing status varies by state or is not immediately clear.

A screenshot of Feig’s Facebook profile. Feig’s continued self-promotion, despite serious allegations and multiple disciplinary actions involving his medical licenses, raises significant concerns about patient safety.

On his Facebook profile, Feig writes, “Dr. Stephen A. Feig is an osteopathic physician with 36+ years of experience in integrative medicine, specializing in gut health, hormones, and chronic fatigue.”

Civil Lawsuit Filed Against Dr. Feig and The Brain Wave Center

Dr. Feig has also been named as a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed in Sarasota County, Florida.

The complaint names both Dr. Feig and 1 Health Place, LLC, doing business as The Brain Wave Center.

The lawsuit asserts claims of battery, assault, and negligence against Feig, and claims of negligence, negligent hiring, training, and supervision, and vicarious liability against The Brain Wave Center.

These allegations raise important questions about the role of the institution,The Brain Wave Center, and what they were responsible to do to protect patients from Feig.

What Should Survivors of Medical Sexual Abuse Do?

Experiencing sexual abuse in a medical setting can be deeply traumatic. Survivors may experience confusion, shame, anger, or a profound sense of betrayal. Speaking with a trusted therapist or victim advocate who is trained to support survivors of sexual abuse can help individuals process trauma and begin the path toward healing.

Survivors should also know that they may have legal options, including the ability to pursue a civil case. Civil cases can examine whether institutions failed to protect those in their care or created unsafe conditions. They can provide a path to accountability, answers, support, and justice separate from a criminal case
