  • Florida teacher Bryan Clum was arrested following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving students at Woodland Middle School.
  • Investigators reportedly interviewed dozens of students during the investigation.
  • Authorities stated concerns were raised about possible misuse of Meta smart glasses in the classroom.

  • Survivors of school-based abuse or misconduct may have both criminal and civil legal options available.

A Florida middle school teacher is facing felony charges after multiple students accused him of inappropriate touching. Additionally, he also allegedly used Meta smart glasses to secretly record students.

Bryan Clum, a 37-year-old teacher at Woodland Middle School in North Port, Florida, was arrested in May 2026 following a months-long investigation by the North Port Police Department. According to reports, multiple female students alleged Clum engaged in repeated inappropriate touching. They report conduct that made them feel unsafe in the classroom.

Investigators reportedly interviewed nearly 60 students during the investigation. Police also stated that some students believed Clum may have used Meta smart glasses to secretly photograph or record female students while at school.

Authorities now believe there may be additional victims.

Prior Allegations Raise Serious Questions About School Oversight

One of the most troubling aspects of this case is that allegations involving Clum reportedly stretch back more than a decade.

According to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Clum was previously disciplined in Pasco County in 2013 after sexually explicit comic books were allegedly discovered in his classroom and in locations accessible to students.

In 2018, while employed at Woodland Middle School, Clum was reportedly accused by a 14-year-old student of inappropriate touching. He was placed on administrative leave for approximately a year. Although criminal charges were ultimately declined at that time, he later returned to the classroom.

Police also stated that additional students raised concerns about Clum’s behavior as recently as last year, though those incidents were allegedly not reported to law enforcement at the time.

When schools and institutions receive repeated warning signs involving the safety of children, serious questions often arise. Was adequate action taken to protect students from future harm?

Meta Glasses and Emerging Concerns About Technology-Facilitated Abuse

This case also highlights growing concerns surrounding the misuse of wearable technology in schools and youth-serving environments.

Meta smart glasses, which can discreetly capture photos and video, have created new fears around privacy violations, voyeurism, and the exploitation of minors. Allegations involving covert recording devices in educational settings may significantly deepen trauma for students who believed they were in a safe environment.

As technology evolves, institutions responsible for protecting children must also evolve their safety protocols, staff monitoring practices, and reporting systems.

The Lasting Impact on Survivors

For many survivors, abuse by a trusted teacher can have devastating and long-term emotional consequences. Children are often taught to trust educators, comply with authority figures, and seek approval from adults in positions of power.

When that trust is violated, survivors may experience anxiety, shame, depression, academic struggles, difficulty trusting others, and long-lasting trauma that extends far beyond the classroom.

Cases involving repeated allegations can be particularly painful for survivors who may later realize warning signs existed before additional students were allegedly harmed.

Civil Liability and Institutional Accountability

In cases involving alleged sexual abuse or exploitation by school employees, civil investigations often examine whether a school district or institution had notice of concerning behavior and whether appropriate action was taken to protect students.

Potential issues may include:

  • Failure to adequately investigate prior complaints
  • Failure to properly supervise employees
  • Allowing continued access to children despite warning signs
  • Failure to report allegations appropriately
  • Inadequate safety and monitoring procedures

Even when criminal charges are pending or have been previously declined, survivors may still have important civil legal options.
