A Charlotte massage therapist who was already on probation is now facing a felony secret peeping charge after police say he secretly recorded a client at a Charlotte spa.
Arrest and Charges
On September 22, 2025, Jarrod Dequan Crawford, 40, was arrested at his place of employment, Silent Moments Spa on Park Road in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to court documents, the client undressed for her massage and “[placed] her clothes in the corner of the room,” following Crawford’s instructions.
After the massage ended, the client returned to the room to put her clothes back on.
“She…noticed a flashing light and saw the cell phone next to a black backpack that was recording her…she immediately grabbed the phone, and air dropped the two videos to her cell phone and then exited the business and called the police.”
Court records state that one video showed Crawford positioning his phone, and the other captured him adjusting it to focus on the area where he had directed the client to change. The second video showed the client in a state of undress, filmed without her consent.
Officers say Crawford confessed in an interview to deliberately arranging his phone to capture a video of the woman undressing, admitting: “It was a bad decision, I was wrong.”
Crawford faces a charge of peeping using a photographic imaging device.
His phone was turned over to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit for a full forensic analysis.
According to WBTV, Crawford posted his $10,000 bond and was released from the Mecklenburg County jail.
The Spa’s Response
Crawford told police he had been employed at Silent Moments Spa since March 2024.
Silent Moments Spa has not issued a formal public statement about Crawford’s arrest, though an assistant manager told WSOC-TV that he was fired the same day he was arrested.
The business did not offer a statement when approached by Queen City News. Instead, they asked reporters to leave and called the police. Employees at the spa declined to answer WCCB’s questions as well.
According to WCCB, multiple customers were unaware of Crawford’s arrest, but were disturbed when they learned of it. Queen City News also reported that the incident had left some of the spa’s clients uneasy.
A Troubling History of Complaints
This arrest is part of a longer pattern of concerns surrounding Crawford’s career. The allegations at Silent Moments Spa are not the first raised about his conduct.
Crawford told police that while he was employed at Massage Envy, two women alleged that he pressed his crotch against them. He denied the allegations, claiming “it was his lotion bag, not his crotch.” He was terminated following these complaints.
According to court documents, “He also worked at Mood House Spa where he was let go regarding a hygiene issue and Natures Spa where he was let go over an employee complaint. He advised neither were sexually related.”
Crawford’s LinkedIn profile indicates that he has been employed at the Hive Day Spa in Lincolntown, North Carolina, since March 2025.
Crawford’s Probation
Regulators were also aware of problems before this arrest. According to a consent order from the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, Jarrod Crawford has been licensed to practice massage and bodywork therapy in North Carolina since 2022.
On August 21, 2025, almost exactly one month before his arrest, the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy placed Crawford on probation for one year after reviewing two separate client complaints.
One complaint, received on February 19, 2025, came “from a client of Massage Envy in Gastonia, North Carolina, alleging that during a massage session, Mr. Crawford engaged in inappropriate contact with the client.”
The second complaint, received in May 2025, was filed by a client of his mobile massage business in Charlotte, North Carolina, who reported that he failed to provide treatment that ensured her safety, comfort, and privacy.
Under the consent order, Crawford was fined a total of $1,000 and ordered to complete 14 hours of education “in ethics, roles and boundaries.”
But critically, he was allowed to keep practicing. In a statement to WCCB, the Board acknowledged that LMBTs (Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapists) are permitted to continue practicing even on probation, adding that they had only just learned of Crawford’s arrest and were working on contacting those involved.
Prior Allegations from a Coworker
One of Crawford’s former coworkers at Nature’s Spa and Wellness filed a complaint with North Carolina’s massage board after a troubling encounter with him. She told WSCO-TV9 that “she is not surprised about these new charges.”
According to the woman, Crawford violated both her privacy and the code of ethics during a massage session. She “described an incident on April 2 when she and Crawford were scheduled to trade 90-minute massages, a common practice in the industry.” (WSCO-TV)
She set up her phone to time the session and then fell asleep during it. She awoke to Crawford offering her a breast massage. She refused, asking whether he was certified to perform that kind of treatment.
Afterward, she discovered her phone was opened to a private album with her own intimate pictures. When she confronted him, Crawford denied any wrongdoing. She reported the incident to her supervisor and manager the following day, and he was fired from the spa soon after.
It is not clear whether this complaint against him was part of his employment record when he was hired by Massage Envy later on.
Independent Business Remains Active
In addition to working at Silent Moments Spa, Crawford also operated his own business, Crawford Massage Therapy, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Even after his arrest, appointments through his personal practice still appeared to be available online.
Crawford promotes himself as a massage therapist with a “passion for helping people” and a commitment to “quality therapeutic massages for overall health and wellness.” He even claims to uphold moral ethics in his practice. The irony is stark: although he presents himself as a professional devoted to healing and wellness, he now stands accused of exploiting his patient’s trust and violating the privacy and dignity of someone who believed they were in safe hands.
Potential Civil Liability
The criminal justice system will determine whether Crawford is convicted and punished under North Carolina law, but the civil justice system addresses a different question: whether businesses like Silent Moments Spa may also be held accountable.
Through the civil justice system, survivors can pursue compensation for the emotional and psychological trauma of being secretly recorded or otherwise violated. Civil lawsuits also provide a way to hold businesses accountable for failing to protect clients, and to drive stronger safeguards to prevent future abuse.
Silent Moments Spa’s decision to employ Crawford, despite prior complaints and dismissals from other massage practices, raises serious concerns that could form the basis for civil liability.
