Lawsuit Filed Against Dr. Andrew Sorial and Boca Raton Psychiatry
A lawsuit filed on May 29, 2026, in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida alleges that psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Sorial engaged in egregious sexual misconduct during virtual psychiatric treatment sessions with a patient. Both Sorial and his employer, Boca Raton Psychiatry, are named as defendants.
The complaint, filed by Andreozzi + Foote and co-counsel, alleges that Dr. Sorial abused his position of medical and psychological authority and exploited the psychiatrist-patient relationship for sexualized purposes unrelated to treatment.
Allegations Against Dr. Andrew Sorial
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was a psychiatric patient of Dr. Sorial from 2023 through 2025 and attended appointments virtually.
The lawsuit alleges that during one of the plaintiff’s first appointments, Dr. Sorial commented that he could see her collarbone and asked to see more of her body; the plaintiff declined.
The complaint alleges that on or about May 31, 2024, Dr. Sorial requested that the plaintiff send him sexually suggestive or revealing photographs of herself wearing minimal clothing, such as a bathing suit. According to the lawsuit, a few days later, the plaintiff complied and sent photographs of herself wearing revealing workout clothing. The complaint further alleges that Boca Raton Psychiatry received and acknowledged those images.
According to the suit, the plaintiff continued treatment with Dr. Sorial approximately every three months. During a later appointment, the complaint alleges that after the plaintiff asked about what supplements she should take, Dr. Sorial commented that there was a supplement that could make her breasts grow, despite the topic having no connection to her psychiatric treatment or concerns.
The lawsuit alleges that Sorial’s sexual misconduct did not arise out of any diagnosis, treatment, or even guise of psychiatric care of the patient, and that there was no reason for him to behave in this manner.
Claims Against Dr. Sorial and Boca Raton Psychiatry
The lawsuit seeks to hold both Dr. Sorial and Boca Raton Psychiatry accountable for the alleged sexual misconduct.
According to the complaint, Boca Raton Psychiatry knew or should have known that Sorial was unfit, dangerous, crossed boundaries with women, and was a threat to the safety and welfare of his female patients.
The complaint alleges vicarious liability against Boca Raton Psychiatry, arguing that the practice should be held responsible for misconduct allegedly committed by one of its psychiatrists during the course of his employment. The complaint also alleges negligent retention and supervision, arguing that the practice failed to adequately supervise Dr. Sorial and therefore failed to protect the patient from sexual misconduct.
Against Dr. Sorial, the lawsuit asserts claims of intentional infliction of emotional distress and breach of fiduciary duty. In this case, a fiduciary duty is a legal and ethical standard of trust that requires a professional to put a patient’s interests ahead of their own. According to the lawsuit, Sorial owed the patient a duty to act in her best interests and for legitimate therapeutic purposes. The complaint alleges that he violated those duties by exploiting the therapeutic relationship for his own personal gratification, placing his own interests above the patient’s wellbeing, and causing significant emotional distress and psychological harm.
The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages and has requested a jury trial.
