Probable Cause Statement Details Alleged Incident
According to a probable cause statement, the patient told investigators “that on August 31st, 2026, she received a massage at The Chiro Clinic from licensed massage therapist Matthew Edward Grimm.” The woman “identified Grimm from a photograph on The Chiro Clinic website as the massage therapist involved in the incident.”
She also provided investigators with a treatment receipt from August 31st at The Chiro Clinic.
The patient alleged “that during the massage, she was lying face down on the massage table with her hands at her sides and palms facing upward. [She] stated that while Grimm was massaging her shoulders, she felt Grimm’s penis and scrotum in her left hand… [The patient] stated Grimm’s penis brushed against her hand for what felt like several minutes. [She] explained she was shocked, afraid, and froze during the incident.”
The patient “denied consenting to any sexual contact with Grimm,” according to the probable cause statement.
According to the probable cause statement, Grimm acknowledged to police that he had treated the patient approximately two or three times.
Grimm “acknowledged” to investigators that he became sexually aroused during the massage and suggested that the patient’s “hand fell from the massage table into his lap and touched his penis.”
When an investigator asked whether he had rubbed his genitals against the patient’s hand, Grimm responded “Probably yes,’” according to the statement.
The investigating officer determined that there was probable cause to believe Grimm knowingly caused the patient to have sexual contact with him while he was acting as a health care provider during a treatment session.

Can The Chiro Clinic be Sued?
Yes, a civil lawsuit may be filed against The Chiro Clinic.
The alleged incident occurred during a massage Grimm performed at The Chiro Clinic on August 31, 2026.
As of the time of this writing, our firm has not identified a public statement from The Chiro Clinic addressing Grimm’s arrest or the subsequent reports involving him. A business may face civil liability depending on whether its own actions or failures contributed to the harm. When sexual assault occurs in a professional treatment setting—where a patient reasonably expects safe, professional care—a civil investigation may examine whether appropriate safeguards were in place to protect patients.
Relevant questions may include:
- Whether appropriate licensing and background checks were conducted;
- Whether the clinic had received prior complaints or warning signs involving Grimm; and
- How any prior complaints or safety concerns were documented and addressed.
Whether The Chiro Clinic could be held liable would depend on the specific facts developed through a civil investigation.
Civil Claims After Massage Sexual Assault
Massage therapy requires patients to place significant trust in a provider while in a physically vulnerable setting.
If a massage therapist uses a treatment session to engage in sexual contact with a patient, the patient may have civil legal options.
Civil lawsuits can help survivors seek compensation for therapy and other needs while holding institutions accountable and encouraging stronger safeguards for future patients.
