Who Was Brother Roger C. Argencourt?
Born on January 16, 1938, Brother Roger C. Argencourt was a member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic religious order that operates preparatory-style schools.
According to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s 2026 Report, a former Mount Saint Charles Academy student reported to police in 2002 that Argencourt, a teacher at the time, sexually abused him during the 1985-1986 school year when he was approximately 12 or 13 years old.
The report states that Argencourt allegedly performed oral sex on the student in the basement of Mount Saint Charles Academy after asking him to help carry school supplies. The student later disclosed the abuse to a counselor before reporting it to law enforcement. School records reportedly confirmed that both the student and Argencourt were at Mount Saint Charles Academy during that period.
Brother Roger C. Argencourt’s Assignments
Brother Roger C. Argencourt served in the following known assignments:
- Bishop Guertin High School, Nashua, New Hampshire (1972–1978)

Allegations, Lawsuits, and Public Record
The Rhode Island allegation was not the only reported claim involving Argencourt. The Attorney General’s report notes that around the same time the 2002 complainant came forward,
“Argencourt was publicly accused of sexually abusing several other male students at Bishop Guertin High School, another Sacred Heart Brothers-run school in New Hampshire, where Argencourt taught both before and after his tenure at Mount Saint Charles. At the time that the Diocese learned of the Rhode Island complainant’s allegation in June 2002, Argencourt was on leave and receiving ‘treatment’ at Saint Luke Institute in Maryland.”
Media reports indicate that one former student alleged Argencourt abused him between 20 and 40 times, and that Argencourt admitted to abusing that student.
Argencourt died on September 23, 2002, before the Rhode Island allegation could be presented to a grand jury, and was never criminally charged. The New Hampshire allegations also were not criminally prosecuted because they fell outside the applicable statute of limitations. However, several civil lawsuits were filed as a result of those allegations.
