Massage Therapist Charged Following Sexual Assault Investigation in Kansas

A Kansas massage therapist is facing several serious criminal charges following an alleged sexual assault incident.

44-year-old Aaron Paul Borger has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors involving five alleged victims.

According to the Baldwin City Police Department, his arrest was the result of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault incident that occurred in the first week of April 2026 during a massage therapy appointment at Om Grown Yoga.

On April 8, 2026, police arrested Borger on suspicion of committing two counts of rape and one count of aggravated sexual battery.

Prosecutors File Multiple Charges Involving Five Victims

Throughout the course of the investigation, authorities found that five alleged victims were reportedly assaulted while receiving massage services from Borger.

Ultimately, prosecutors with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office charged Borger with:

  • Two counts of rape
  • Two counts of aggravated sexual battery
  • Three counts of sexual battery

In a statement, Douglas County District Attorney Dakota Loomis thanked those who came forward, emphasizing the importance of survivor reports.

Authorities encourage anyone who may have had inappropriate or non-consensual contact with Borger to report their experience. They can contact Detective Vanessa Garza directly at 785-594-3850 or via email at vschmalz@baldwincity.gov. The investigation remains ongoing.

Along with working at the yoga studio, Borger also worked as a part-time massage therapist out of a chiropractic office in Grandview, Missouri, which has not been named.

His next court appearance is reportedly set for April 15, 2026.

Om Grown Yoga Responds

In a Facebook post, Om Grown Yoga and Wellness Collective acknowledged that “that a massage therapist previously associated with our studio has been arrested on serious charges.”

The studio stated that it has zero tolerance for behavior that compromises the safety or dignity of its clients and emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and healing environment. It also encouraged community members to reach out directly to its owners with any concerns.

Lack of State Regulation Raises Broader Concerns

In Kansas, massage therapy remains unlicensed at the state level despite multiple legislative efforts to establish a statewide regulatory system. As a result, oversight is often left to local jurisdictions, creating varying standards depending on where services are provided.

Public records from the Missouri Division of Professional Registration show that Aaron Paul Borger holds an active massage therapy license in Missouri, issued in June 2024 and currently active through 2027, with no disciplinary history listed. His address is listed as Hartford, Kansas.

In professions built on trust between providers and clients, consistent oversight and clear safety standards are essential to help prevent misconduct and protect those receiving services.

When regulatory standards vary across jurisdictions and practitioners work across multiple locations, as Borger did in both Kansas and Missouri, it can create gaps in accountability. In this case, that raises questions about whether the alleged misconduct extended beyond a single setting and whether stronger safeguards could have helped prevent it.

Can Massage Therapy Businesses Be Held Liable?

The criminal justice system will determine whether Aaron Borger is convicted and punished under Kansas law. The civil justice system can determine something else: whether businesses where he worked, including Om Grown Yoga or other locations, may also bear responsibility for what occurred.

Survivors of sexual assault may have the right to pursue civil claims against a business if negligence or a lack of proper safeguards contributed to the abuse. In professional service settings, such as massage therapy practices, where clients rely on providers for care, businesses have a responsibility to prioritize safety.

Civil lawsuits can allow survivors to seek compensation for the emotional and psychological harm caused by sexual assault while also holding businesses accountable for failing to protect those in their care.

When misconduct is alleged in settings like wellness studios or chiropractic offices, civil investigations may examine important questions, including:

  • Whether appropriate background checks were conducted
  • Whether there were prior complaints or warning signs involving the provider
  • Whether adequate safeguards were in place to protect clients
  • Whether policies and procedures were implemented and followed to prevent abuse

If a business fails to take reasonable steps to ensure client safety, it may face civil liability.

Civil cases can play a critical role in uncovering institutional failures, encouraging stronger safety policies, and helping to prevent similar harm from happening to others.
